The blade is made from Sandvik 14C28N steel. This is a well-rounded, high-carbon steel that achieves high sharpness combined with excellent edge retention and rust-resistance. This makes it especially suitable for a filleting knife that needs to be both rust-resistant and extremely sharp through extended use. The blade is welded to 430SS through the bolster and handle which provides excellent rust resistance.
The handle is made from G10 material which is a type of fibreglass. It is extremely durable and won’t warp in heat or humidity. We have also laser-shaped it to provide a non-slip pattern that works like a collection of small suction cups, while staying easy to clean.
he sheath is made from Kydex, a hard thermoplastic that is moulded precisely to fit the shape of the blade. It is designed so the knife safely clips in and stays in place. This is without any additional hardware making it more durable.
Avoid cutting anything other than fish, clean and dry the knife after use. We like to hone the knife (with a honing rod) before each filleting session, and sharpen it once or twice a year (depending on how often it’s used).
Simply wash the knife in fresh water using soap, and allow it to dry before storing. Although the steel is very rust-resistant, like every other steel it will develop rust if left exposed to salt for extended periods of time. We don’t recommend washing the knife in a dishwasher - use hand washing only.
This knife is best suited for fish maximum 12” at the widest part. Depending on the kind of fish, this can mean a 50lbs+ fish. You can use it for larger fish too, but for that we recommend a longer knife.
